Then on Monday, a man died after a boat flipped in surf down at Mallacoota, Victoria.
The waterskiing accident occurred when a 22-year-old man was skiing behind his father’s boat on Tuross Lake, near Bodalla, at about 11.30am on Sunday, when he fell into the water.
NSW Police says he was then struck by a fibreglass runabout, which was being skippered by an unlicensed 15-year-old boy travelling in the opposite direction.
The victim sustained head injuries after being hit by the boat’s propeller.
Police from Marine Area Command and Ambulance paramedics responded quickly to the incident.
The injured man was taken to Moruya Hospital but died a short time later.
Marine detectives will assist local police with their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A crime scene was secured and the runabout seized for forensic examination.
The teenage boy is yet to be formally interviewed by police and no charges have been laid at this stage.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the Marine Area Command, Far South Coast Police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A boating accident in Mallacoota meanwhile claimed the life of a man and left another in hospital on Monday.
The Eden Magnet reports that Victorian Police say the 50-year-old man was with two others and a woman when the fibreglass boat overturned about 80 metres off Bastion Point at about 8.45am.
He died at the scene while one of his companions was taken to Orbost Hospital with minor injuries.
The other two companions received minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.
Fishing charter operator and abalone diver, Jason York of Mallacoota Fishing Charters and Tours, said he stayed ashore this morning as conditions were too rough for diving.
“There was a 2m swell here, too rough for diving but it wouldn’t have been too bad for fishing,” he said.
Mr York said the man was known in the community as he had been a regular holiday maker.
Mr York is the survivor of a similar accident.
“I’ve rolled the boat myself when the engine broke down during a crossing,” he said.
“So it may not have been the operator.”
Victorian Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
