Narooma News editorial: July 17

The front page story about sea-level rise and the Narooma Flat is bound to be controversial given that many may still not believe in climate change and rise in sea levels that the scientific world is predicting.

So is there anything to worry about? Some I have spoken over the past week say it is only a matter of time before the water rises whether from a tsunami or global warming and melting ice caps.

Others just roll their eyes and say it is never going to happen so why should there be onerous planning restrictions.

Some would say that the only thing to worry about is development and growth being stifled and how on earth are we going to do anything about an area that is already built up.

Well like most things in life, having all the facts at hand and considering all the options is a good thing.

The matter is now in the hands of the local council so good luck to them in whatever they come up with.

Lastly, we have had some letters about the cycleway being finished and the good news is that council is planning celebration – as you can read below – and we are all looking forward to that!
