The Tap Water Please campaign promotes the benefits of choosing tap or tank water over purchased bottled water by providing information about the quality of our local water supply and about the amount of energy and resources wasted in the production of bottled water.
Mayor Lindsay Brown is inviting residents, sporting and community groups to “get snappy” and take photographs that capture the theme of choosing tap or tank water over purchased bottled water and to make up a catchy slogan to accompany their photographs.
“The aim of the Tap Water Please photographic competition is to spread the word about the benefits of choosing tap water in a fun and creative way,” Cr Brown said.
“A picture really does tell a thousand words and using tap or tank water instead of buying bottled water is a great sustainable choice that everyone can make for the benefit of our environment.
“Our waterways are tourism drawcards and it’s a sad fact that the majority of empty water bottles, even though they are recyclable, still end up in landfill, or our waterways where they have the potential to kill or gravely harm marine life.”
Entry forms are now available on council’s website or by calling 4474 1000. The competition is open to community groups within Eurobodalla and entries close on Friday 24 January 2014.
“This gives everyone all of the holidays to get creative and start snapping. We are looking forward to seeing many creative entries the capture the important Tap Water Please environmental message and we will post them on council’s Facebook page as a photo gallery,” Cr Brown said.
