The most serious incident occurred at 2.15am on Christmas morning when a 19-year-old Canberra man lost control while allegedly doing a burnout at the intersection of Glasshouse Rocks Road and the Princes Highway.
His car slid backwards down a 5-metre embankment coming to rest in a near vertical position.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash and police located the uninjured driver a short time later.
The P-plater failed a breath test at the station and was charged with mid-range drink driving.
Investigations are however ongoing and any witnesses are asked to contact Narooma police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
Then on Sunday afternoon there was a single-vehicle, rollover accident occurred on the straight stretch of the Princes Highway at the Island View Beach Resort south of Narooma.
Police say a 39-year-old Canberra man was driving north in his Hilux utility when he noticed too late a car ahead turning onto the road to Handkerchief Beach.
At the last moment he swerved around the stationary vehicle, losing control on the dirt embankment, before rolling several times and, finally, hitting a tree.
The man miraculously escaped serious injury but was taken to Moruya Hospital for observation and he did receive a negligent driving ticket.
A ticket was also in store for the 31-year-old Sydney driver who told police he wanted to take his new Toyota Kluger for a drive on Narooma main beach.
With his dad, wife and kids on board, he drove down the dirt embankment at the Narooma Surf Life Saving Club at about 7pm on Sunday evening, making it as far as the other side of the lagoon before becoming bogged in soft sand.
A large crowd gathered to watch and not even a man dressed in a Superman suit could budge the vehicle, and nor could the surf club’s ATV driven by off duty lifeguards or a 4-wheel-drive driven by another helpful bystander.
Eventually it was the Narooma police Hilux utility to the rescue with officers using their winch to extricate the stricken Kluger.
The man for his trouble received a “drive vehicle/ride horse on public land contrary to sign” ticket worth $220.
Police also planned out to be in force on the roads on New Year’s Eve last night.
