Hosting the Canberra-based boxers was local trainer Steve Spears and others involved in the new PCYC boxing club.
Among the boxers visiting was Australian hopeful for the Commonwealth Games, Bianca Elmir.
Joining her was current reigning women’s 54kg world champion Aleksandra “Sasha” Kuleshova from Russia, who has been brought out specifically to offer some quality sparring for Bianca in her Games bid.
Also visiting were a couple of young Samoan female boxers Mattie and Nina Schuster, and all train at the Underground Boxing Gym at the Stockade Training Centre in Canberra.
The affiliation between the local boxing contingent and the Canberra gym will continue and there will no doubt be more visiting boxing camps.
This latest visit was also a chance to test out the new portable PCYC boxing ring that was donated by Club Narooma.
The boxers also had some tough beach sprinting sessions but also took some time out for some sightseeing and even some surfing, which was a novelty for Sasha who was a newcomer to the ocean.
Bianca and Sasha are now in Russia training where it is minus 30 degrees – a bit of a change from a warm Narooma beach.
The Narooma News also heard that Narooma’s own boxing son Leroy “The Narooma Booma” Brown was in town visiting this week.
The new PCYC boxing club will start training at the Narooma Sports and Leisure Centre, including with the new ring, at the end of this month.
