“Youth Crossing” is an initiative of The Crossing Land Education Trust showcasing young performers for nine years and is a venue at the festival devoted to and run by young people.
Past performers have included Kim Churchill, Daniel Champagne, Kade Brown, Sam McMahon and Rhys Davies, all continuing to find great success as performers.
Nine years ago when it started a handful of young people performed on the Youth Crossing stage. Last year 40 young performers took to the stage.
“It really has been a great success story for the Cobargo Folk Festival and for The Crossing,” said Annette Turner, trust director of The Crossing. “Not so long ago you were hard pressed to find young people at the festival, now there are lots, whether as performers or supportive audience members. The stage really provides a friendly space and focus”.
The Crossing has some new plans for the stage this year too with the “Wild Chai of Mine” café, lawn games - imagine giant Jenga, a fire show at night and a fantastic short film festival sponsored by Screen My Shorts that will run till midnight.
Young musicians who want to perform and teachers with music students who are interested should contact Sven Helland at themusicalcrossing@gmail.com this week to secure a performance space and be include in the printed program.
Safer youth plan for folk festival
THE Cobargo Folk Festival will be introducing a new youth ticketing policy at this year’s festival.
The aim is to reduce the incidents involving unaccompanied youth and ensure that all young people attending the festival will be looked after and accounted for.
The new youth ticketing policy will enable festival organisers to offer greater safety and security for all, especially those under 18.
Youth tickets (12-17yrs) can be purchased in conjunction with an adult 25-plus ticket, with a maximum of three youth tickets per paying adult.
The 25-plus adults must be contactable by mobile phone at the festival.
Weekend early bird tickets are still available until February 17. Visit cobargofolkfestival.com
