TWO Narooma police officers on February 22 chased on foot and captured a wanted local man who fled into the forest at the Narooma sawmill.
Police were driving along the Princes Highway at 6.45pm when they saw the 33-year-old Dalmeny man parked on the side of the road in a car that had been reported stolen.
Police also recognised him as allegedly breaching an apprehended violence order and so pulled over to arrest him.
He ran into the forest west of the highway behind the sawmill with police giving chase up the steep hill in rugged terrain.
After a relatively lengthy chase the exhausted man was apprehended and captured without a struggle.
Bail was refused and the man was charged with breaching an AVO, stealing a motor vehicle, failing to submit to breath analysis and resisting arrest.
Prowler spotted
A DALMENY resident spotted a prowler with a torch in the front yard at 11pm on Thursday. Police searched the area for the “skinny, 6-foot male” but could not locate him.
Spoiler pinched
THE rear spoiler of a Holden Viva parked in the Narooma central business district was ripped off its mounts around midnight on Saturday.
Hefty fine
A FEMALE driver copped a hefty fine after police allege they saw her talking on her mobile phone while driving on Dalmeny Drive at 1.35pm on Sunday.
Steers found
TWO 400kg black steers reported going missing from a Tilba property between February 12 and 27 where found in a neighbouring paddock.
Livestock clarification
FOLLOWING on from last week’s report of a dog shot on a Narooma property, police say landowners are entitled to destroy animals that threaten or attack their livestock.
Bail refused for alleged assault
A NAROOMA man charged with assault after approaching a 15-year-old girl in Narooma had his case adjourned to April 7 in Batemans Bay Local Court.
The 31 year old was charged with failing to comply with reporting obligations and common assault.
He pleaded guilty to the first charge and not guilty to the second.
Bail was not applied for and formally refused.
Police allege about 8.30pm on Tuesday, February 18, the man approached a girl waiting for a lift after work on the Princes Highway.
She alleges he spoke to her, grabbed her shoulder, and offered to give her a lift home.
As this was happening her sister arrived and she ran to her vehicle.
They reported the matter to their parents when they got home and contacted police.
Investigations led to the arrest of the man on Thursday afternoon.
