“I want the whole community to know we are alive and functioning well,” clinical manager Katherine Leighton said.
She wants to encourage community members to come in and have a discussion about their health needs and have a health check.
“I’d like to actively encourage our Indigenous brothers and sisters to use the service.”
Facilities include general practice medical and dental clinics. Allied health programs are in place for eye health, otitis media and maternity care, and a range of outreach programs are available to service the wider community.
Dedicated Katungal employees include receptionist Chrystal Mercy, Aboriginal health worker Wayne Williams and transport coordinator Todd Chatfield.
“Chrystal meets the community’s needs and is central to service delivery,” CEO John Rogers said.
Wayne recently received recognition by AHMRC for his thoroughness in following up with clients.
“Follow up and referral are essential in managing client health outcomes,” Wayne said.
“I really enjoy my clinical role and all my training is now starting to pay off.”
Katungal run a clinic in at the Umbarra Outreach Centre in Wallaga Lake every Tuesday from 9.30am until 3pm.
A registered nurse, an Aboriginal health worker and a doctor who specialises in women’s health are all on hand to cater to the community’s health requirements. Appointments are preferred but staff try to attend to anyone who may turn up.
Phone Katungul on 4476 2155 to make an appointment or drop in to 26 Princes Highway, Narooma, Monday to Friday, 9am until 5pm.
