Festival spokesperson Cath Peachey and Australia’s Oyster Coast executive officer Andrew Wales were interviewed by leading Australian-based Chinese and Indian print, radio and television journalists.
Each journalist was allotted 15 minutes for a separate interview.
“The Festival is all about promoting what’s special about Narooma and the surrounding region and attracting visitors at a quieter time of year,” Ms Peachey said.
“These journalists have a combined reach in Australia of over a million people, and their coverage also extends well into their home markets.
“They were really keen to hear about South Coast NSW and its quality fresh produce particularly oysters, and the Festival itself.
“They said Chinese people love seafood, particularly oysters, while the Indian journalist said their audience would be most interested in learning more about cooking with seafood and oysters.”
Mr Wales was impressed with their genuine enthusiasm and interest in the environmental management work done by South Coast NSW oyster farmers over recent years.
“Our estuaries are now the most pristine in the world and our oysters among the world’s best,” he said.
“This really caught their attention and they asked how to identify oysters grown here. We’ve branded the area from the Shoalhaven to the Victorian border Australia’s Oyster Coast and that brand identifies oysters grown here as a premium product.”
The journalists are particularly interested in the Festival’s cooking demonstrations by the region’s “hatted” chefs on Saturday, and in Sunday’s Australia’s Oyster Coast Ambrose Golf Classic on Narooma’s famous golf course with ocean frontage.
“They recognised the golf classic is such good value,” Ms Peachey said.
“It was a fantastic afternoon and I believe we’ll get some really positive coverage for the Festival and Australia’s Oyster Coast. Some of their journalists may also come to the Festival.”
The interviews were organised by MultiConnexions, an agency that specialises in multicultural marketing and communications.
