This will be the first Narooma Forest Rally since 2008 and organisers are hoping to make it annual event once again.
In the past, this event has been a favourite of competitors and spectators alike, and this year’s event is shaping up to be no different.
The event and route has been approved by Eurobodalla Council, NSW Forestry, and NSW Police, and affected roads are identified in the course map, according to event organiser Michael Taylor.
The “service park” will be central to Narooma located on NATA Oval.
There will be one spectator point, held on Mitchells Ridge Road.
“The event is expected to have a significant economic impact for the Narooma region, with over 200 visitors expected in the region over the course of the weekend,” Taylor said.
Entries don't close until early next week but at the moment it looks like there will be 20 to 25 cars racing, ranging from 4WD turbo charged Mitsubishi Evos and Subaru WRXs to 1970s classics such as Datsun 1600s and Ford Escorts.
The cars will assemble at the Service Park at NATA oval from 8.30am on Saturday, July 12.
The best place to see them in the forest is on Mitchells Ridge Road from 11.15am and again at 3.45pm.
“The main safety message is that certain forest roads will be closed for periods on Saturday,” Taylor said.
“Signs are on the relevant bits of road at the moment. Other safety message is that if you do go and watch, please stay in the designated area and follow the instructions of any event officials.”
