Over the last 10 years HSC subject selection trends have had some dramatic changes. State-wide, senior subject selection is evolving based on numerous factors including future job prospects, content covered within a curriculum, and teaching and learning techniques adopted by the subject area.
Over the past decade the largest enrolments growth has occurred in subjects such as Community and Family Studies and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. Over the period 2003 to 2013, Community and Family Studies has grown in enrolments state wide by 88 per cent and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education has grown by 36 per cent. Both of these subjects are offered by the PDHPE faculty at Narooma High School in years 11 and 12.
Narooma’s Head Teacher of PDHPE, Dion Cafe, said: “We have also experienced steady growth in popularity of these subjects at Narooma High”.
“Both subjects have provided students with outstanding HSC results as well, with many of our students receiving band 5 and 6 results at HSC level.
“Over the last seven years of these courses being taught, eight of our students enrolled in two unit PDHPE have achieved a HSC result that placed them in the top 10 per cent of the state.
“Two of these students placed in the top 2 per cent (a HSC exam mark of 95 or over),” he said.
If parents and students wish to enrol or discuss these subjects in more detail they are encouraged to ring Mr Cafe at Narooma High School on 4476 4377 during working hours.
