We were contacted by someone concerned about the proximity of the logging to the popular Bodalla Park highway rest stop.
Forestry Corporation foresters have said there will be a “visual zone” adjacent to the park where there will be fewer trees harvested.
The foresters seemed genuinely keen to make sure that the environmentally sensitive areas are going to be protected and let’s hope so.
It is also good that this timber is going be used for high value products and not simply chipped.
The big news of the changed recreational fishing bag limits came this week, but again it seems that some of the more sticky issues such as lowering bag limits on other popular species such as kingfish and snapper seem to have been put in the too hard basket.
Comments that have come on our website and Facebook also focus on the need to have more controls on commercial haul netters who targeted bream during the recent opening of Brou Lake.
It is all very well to halve the recreational bag limits but more needs to be done to make commercial fishing more sustainable especially if reports of tonnes and tonnes of fish taken are true.
Having said that though, recreational fishing takes much more fish than commercial fishing and so steps to manage both sectors are equally important, however unpalatable to politicians.
