THE committee of the Narooma Little Athletics Club were impressed with the start of the 2014 season. More than 40 kids turned out for the first hit out of the season and everyone had ball, I for one have not witnessed so many big smiles in one place at one time.

If you have any budding little athletes sitting at home on a Tuesday afternoon after school looking to have some good clean fun, well here is your answer, get them down to Bill Smyth Oval for loads of fun and activities. This will keep the kids fit over the summer months to enable them to play their winter sports as fit as fiddles and injury free. If you are between the age of five and 17 this is your sport, come along and you will be accommodated, by our accredited coaches led by head coach Mellisa Café. They are Troy Beecham, Monique Craig, Brad Cumming and Deon Cafe, and they are all keen to go.
It was great to see Connor Griffiths and Lilly Bennett helping pass on what they have learnt while away on their Canadian experience.
The first night consisted of warm up drills, learning the arts of long jump, discus and javelin. All kids were extremely well behaved, had a great time, and enjoyed the night. It was also very pleasing to see so many parents hang around and watch the kids strut their stuff.
There are drinks, fruit, coffee and sausage sangers on sale in the canteen at competitive prices, come along and enjoy the afternoon with your kids, it will be worth it. Maybe you have a future Olympian in waiting. Win, lose or draw the rewards are written on the kids’ faces at the end of the days fun.
This week’s members profile is Kylie McLaren...
Kylie was one of a group of people consisting of Kate Anderson, Tanya Le Strang and Jo Druin that wanted something for the local kids to do to keep fit and have fun during the summer months. She has been there since the year dot and still plays a huge part in the clubs activities after the first three years. Kylie was the first president of the club and remains on the committee today.
She has been married to Brad Mc Laren for 12 years and has three billy lids, Harry 8, Billy 6 and Matilda 5 . (All involved in the club.) Originally hailed from Bega from the Rolfe clan, has played many sports including softball, hockey, indoor hockey and soccer as well as indoor cricket, as well as playing for the Narooma Devils open tag team.
Don’t forget the day to join in this wonderful sporting organisation is every Tuesday afternoon at 5pm. Be there for heaps of fun.
Cheers Benno
