Clint also played with the Narooma Devils when they won the 2009 premiership. He then went on to win the Canberra Raiders Cup with the Queanbeyan Roo’s in 2011 before he moved to Wollongong where he played under Reece Simmons and Jason Riles.
Clint has now returned to Narooma where he has been fortunate to find an apprenticeship that will enable him to captain coach the Narooma Devils where he will follow on in the footsteps of his brother Todd who coached the 2012 first grade Devils to victory.
“I’m hoping that we will get a big roll-up for training,” Clint said.
“We are depending on past, present and new players to turn up to our first family get together,” he said.
The Devils are planning their first get together on Saturday, January 31 at Surf Beach Narooma starting at 12 noon. The afternoon will include a barbecue, refreshments, a game of touch footy and a run.
“Our first training session will be the following week,” Clint said.
The first representative game of the season is the Indigenous All Stars is on Sunday, March 8 at a venue to be announced. The Devils first game will be the 9’s on March 15 at Eden followed by the beginning of the Group 16 competition on Sunday, March 22.
This year there isn’t any pre-season comp because there are nine first grade teams competing including Bateman’s Bay.
“The Devils first grade side will be a stronger side with formers players such as Brendan Harper, Tim Keegan, Clint Wright and a good bunch of strong talented players coming through to join last year’s grand final team coached by Ayresy,” Devils president Jaime Wright said.
“Our dedicated Reserve graders will be a team to be feared as well,” he said.
Coming on board once again are sponsors Scottie Cavanagh from the Raw Prawn Bistro and Paul O’Brien from O’Brien’s Hotel.
“We thank our major sponsors Paul and Scottie and we are hoping we will still have the good support of our jumper sponsors because we will be asking tor their sponsorship again,” president Jaime Wright said.
“We are also hoping to have reserves, U18s and ladies tag teams,” he said.
Applications for coaches need to be forwarded to PO Box 20 by January 18.
O’Brien’s Hotel will once again be the venue for the annual general meeting on Wednesday, January 28 at 7pm.
“We are desperate for workers as they are vital for the club to be successful.
“It was too hard last year with only a minimal amount of helpers,” he said.
The Devils also wish to congratulate ex-players Jeff Constable who celebrated his 90th birthday recently. Jeff played in the Devils premiership side in the ‘50’s.
“We wish to extend our warmest welcome home to Clint and his partner Romy and wish them the best of luck for 2015,” Jaime said.
