The contest, judged by a paddock full of cheering spectators, requires entrants to stand in a line on stage and shake what their mama gave them in order to earn the trophy.
Dirt ’n’ Dust event manager Sam Kimlin said that the novelty event had become a huge drawcard for the festival, and that the title was harder to win every year.
“There have been a few famous names compete in the competition over the years – Reidy from Bondi Rescue entered last year, but lost to a Julia Creek local. It takes more than a bit of fame to win Australia’s Best Butt!” Ms Kimlin said.
“The Best Butt Competition is held on Saturday night after the Cannington Julia Creek Dirt ’n’ Dust Triathlon, the BHPBilliton Artesian Express, and the Dirt ’n’ Dust Bullride sanctioned by PBR – so is a fun way to finish off the day.”
Where is this amazing festival?
The Dirt ’n’ Dust Festival has become infamous not just for hosting the toughest sprint triathlon in Australia, but also for its Best Butt Competition, bog snorkelling and cow pat throwing, with a weekend full of events for the whole family.
