Team reports:
NAROOMA U13s played in the grand final against Bodalla at Broulee on Sunday. Undefeated all year they came to the final full of confidence and enthusiasm. They started off strongly attacking and in the 12th minute Eric Hills put in a great cross from the corner and Jack Westoll and Jarrah Seaman scored together. Eric Hills has been brilliant in defence all year with hardly anyone getting past him. On Sunday he was backed up by super-fast Braith Mazzucchelli and together they formed a formidable back line.
After that great start Narooma hit the crossbar twice with repeated attacks until the 23rd minute when Jarrah Seaman got another great goal. Jarrah has been an inspirational captain all year and one of the team’s most valuable players. He always encourages his teammates to keep up the pressure.
Ethan Anderson scored an amazing goal at the 29th minute from the touchline across the goal and into the far post. Ethan’s contribution to this year has been outstanding and he won a coaches award. Jack Westoll also received an award for his consistent effort.
Halftime score 3-0 to Narooma.
Narooma's constant pressure finally paid off with Kurt Zideluns scoring a goal nine minutes into the second half. Jack Westoll and Harrison Bromwich helped set up the goal for Kurt. More skilful work paid off with Kurt scoring a second goal. The final score 5-0.
Thanks to Digger Cowie the teams’ great goalie who never complained about being bored some games and only conceding one of the five goals scored against Narooma all year! This season’s success is about the contribution of every team member with the standout centre forward, James Hurley; always reliable Makalya Morris in defence; Rory Spurgeon delivering when necessary in any position he’s asked to play; Cooper Ives who has improved immensely this year and Patrick Stewart who has never played soccer before and has had an awesome season.
Every player in the team gave 100 per cent on the day to be the victorious undefeated champions! Well done everyone… your coach Chris Westoll and all the parents and supporters are very proud of you all.
Lime Green Mean Machine
THE Narooma Bodalla Youth Girls played in the grand final and were defeated two goals to nil.
They played the Moruya side that were undefeated all year and during the season the girls were beaten 9 nil by the same side.
It was always going to be a hard task. Both sides were fired up and in the true spirit of the sport everyone turned up in their team colours ready for what would turn out to be a fantastic game.
Both sides played hard in the first half and the game went end for end. At the 24th minute Moruya scored a great goal and at the break the Bodalla Narooma girls were down one nil.
After the break, the game continued with the same intensity and Narooma Bodalla threatened the champions line on many occasions. In the closing stages of the game Narooma Bodalla were looking dangerous and were unlucky not to even the score.
Moruya scored a great goal in the last few minutes of the game and sealed what was a well-earned win, but the Lime Green Mean Machine certainly made them earn their glory.
The Narooma Bodalla girls have been a side who have started from scratch and grown to play in the grand final. That in itself is amazing. The girls have bonded and grown as friends this year and should be proud of their achievement.
At the final whistle both sides came together and it was an example of what the game is all about. There were no tears, just elation as both sides realised what a great contest had just unfolded.
“The Narooma Bodalla player of the match was Sarah Alderton who was just never stopped. Every player in the side stood up and the result shows that,” coach Jim Sharpe said.
“Thank you to all you wonderful young ladies in the team, as a coach you could not ask for a better bunch.
“I am so proud and have had a fantastic time,” he said.
