Narooma Lions were confident from last week’s first win and despite playing last year’s premiers Pambula Panthers, the side was expecting a very good display of AFL football.

A few late changes to players caused some concern and the senior coaching staff stepped up to assist, to ensure a strong showing was to be had.
In front of a good crowd of some 200-plus people at Bill Smyth Oval, the game started with some free scoring fast paced end to end footy.
At the end of the first break the Lions lead by three points. The second quarter was a tight battle with no side getting on top. The Panthers kicked three goals to lead at half time by five points.
The third quarter remained the same hard grind with end to end footy and not much scoring and four points separated the teams at the final break.
With it all to play for the last quarter, coach Clothier asked the boys for that last big effort to win this great game.
Unfortunately, the Panthers with a little bit more youth, and run and carry in the side kicked away to win by 33 points. Pambula Panthers 16.15 (111) to Narooma Lions 12.6 (78).
The Narooma Lions were watched on Saturday by some AFL royalty – with former AFL Brownlow medallist winner from 1964 Gordon Collis from Carlton (on holidays in the area) at the ground. He mixed with a few local Narooma boys after the game and said how much enjoyed watching the Local Lions play especially big Jordan Lang - who reminded Gordon a bit of himself in by gone era. Jordan had a very good game.
Post game presentations were held at the Narooma Golf Club at 5.30pm. The seniors have a bye next week and its next game is at Bill Smyth Oval against Eden at 2.30pm on May 14.
The Narooma Development side continued to have a strong showing – while not the most youthful team around – it has some strong AFL commitment.
After a poor third quarter against the Panthers, the Lions were down some seven goals. The boys put on a football display to fight back strongly in the last quarter, but ran out of legs at the end to only lose by 19 points.
Great performance by Mikolic with seven goals and Peel with a best on ground performance for his continued hard efforts at the ball. Narooma Lions 9.6 (60) lost to Pambula Panthers 12.7 (79). Their next game is against Pambula at Pambula at 2pm on Saturday.
Narooma Lions AFL Women’s Football continued to entertain and showed some great skill with a strong performance against the Pambula Panthers. While one goal separated the sides at half time – a six goal to two, second half performance by the Panthers was a bit too strong for the Narooma ladies’ side. Their next game is against Broulee-Moruya at Kyla Park, Tuross on May 7.
The under 16s team had the honour of unfurling the 2015 premiership flag prior to the start of their clash against the Pambula Panthers.
This had the boys up and going early, but in the end the Panthers were too strong and won by 60 points. The boys will need to regroup as they play Pambula again next week in Pambula at 12.30pm.
The under 13s had a strong win, the only success for the club on the day – well done team – while the under 11s fought on well, but were never that close. Under 13s play BMG at Tuross at 10.45am and under 11s play at Tuross at 9.30am on Saturday.
