The event, run by the Brindabella Motor Sports Club based in Canberra, is a competitive motor sport event conducted in the forests surrounding Narooma, as is a round of the ACT and NSW State Championships.
The organisers were kept busy following the recent storms in the region, with fallen trees causing issues with the event planning. “We had a crew down cutting and moving fallen trees for over six hours in the past week” organiser Michael Taylor said. “However we are more than happy that our efforts benefit the Narooma community which gives so much to this event.”
Overall winners for the 2016 Narooma Forest Rally were Adrian Coppin and Erin Kelly in their Corolla S2000, second were Mick Patton and Brian Webb in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10, while third were Chris Higgs and Karra Penny in their Subaru Impreza WRX.
Mr Coppin thanked the 60 volunteers and sponsors Club Narooma and Horizon Apartments. Organisers Brindabella Motor Sports Club and the rally will definitely be back in Narooma next year, he said. The staging point was on NATA Oval catered by Narooma Lions.
