Goldfield great day
What a great day was missed by those people unable to go to the Montreal Goldfield Heritage Day on the weekend. We had a bullock team pulling a log through the bush, the Montreal Pit Singers producing a great sound, gold panning, writing your own Mining Certificate with pen and ink, craft stalls, portrait sketches of visitors by the Cobargo artists and of course poetry and stories by Henry Lawson. To say nothing of Bill’s mouth watering damper. The day turned out to be beautiful with the sun shining through the trees and a relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of times gone by. The Montreal Goldfield management committee volunteers are to be congratulated for their effort and enthusiasm that made the day possible.

Lions raffle draw
Narooma and District Lions Club were selling raffle tickets at every event run by Slightly Twisted Productions over the long weekend, as well as Saturday and Sunday night at the Quarterdeck. The prizes were drawn by Tim Burke at the last event at the golf club over the weekend. First prize of the vintage hubcap guitar made by Greg Watts was won by Patricia Spink and second prize was the dinner voucher at the Quarterdeck, which was won by Rueben Sauillima. Tim also donated another four prizes of double passes to shows by Slightly Twisted Productions in December and January. We would like to sincerely thank Chris at the Quarterdeck, Greg Watts for making the guitar and Tim and Fiona from Slightly Twisted Productions. Narooma and District Lions look forward to their continued support of Lions and the Narooma community.

Thank-you
On behalf of our Bodalla Embroiderers association I am writing to thank-you very much for the wonderful coverage you gave us leading up to our exhibition held during the October long weekend. It would be very difficult to spread the word for this event without the support of your articles and photos. We also appreciated the fact that you sent a photographer to the event. I look forward to working with you in the future.

Above board
I am writing in response to two letters that appeared recently in the Narooma News. First I’d like to address Councillor Patrick McGinlay. I would just like to point out that I have written only two letters to the local paper over the past year. This is hardly what I would call frequent! You must have me confused with Ms Cruttenden who has an anti-HuntFest letter in the paper just about every other week. Maybe being confused is a problem with The Greens. Was it not federal Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson Young who confused a TV show with reality? You have no need to be concerned about the process of approval for HuntFest.
HuntFest has been to council a number of times, its approval process has even been investigated and everything was found to be above board. As for this so called strong, local opposition, what you have is about twenty ill-informed people going off because they can’t get their own way. Each year, for the past three years, over 2500 people have attended HuntFest. I would hardly put that in the sideshow category. I am sure the local businesses in the Narooma area don’t see it that way either. Lastly, I’d like to address Ms Gardiner. For the past three years at HuntFest, anyone has been able to enter the HuntFest photograph competition. You do not have to be a hunter or belong to a hunting club. Please try and keep up to date. There is always the option of entering your feral pig photograph in The Greens’ photograph competition at Bodalla if they’ll have it!
