Each morning this week, motorcycle riders from the local chapter of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club will be at different locations in Eurobodalla, wearing high-visibility vests with the name “Joe Rider” printed on the back.
Joe Rider represents every motorcyclist and this campaign urges drivers to be looking out for motorcyclists on our roads. Statistics tell us that in Eurobodalla, motorcycle crashes account for 14.1 per cent of all accidents, higher than the NSW average of 12.2 per cent.
Council’s road safety officer Heidi Hanes will be at each location to hand out prizes and answer questions about the campaign. The campaign is being run in partnership with a local radio station, who are telling listeners where they can go to ‘spot’ Joe Rider and win prizes.
Joe Rider on Monday was at the Narooma Visitor Information Centre car park and then on Tuesday he was at Moruya’s Riverside Park car park, opposite Blue Heron cafe.
Here is his schedule for the rest of the week:
- · Wednesday, October 19, 10am – Batemans Bay, Orient Street in front of the Bakery
- · Thursday, October 20, 10am – Batehaven plant nursery car park, opposite Batehaven Bakery
- · Friday, October 21, 10am – Moruya Council Chambers forecourt
