More than 130 competitors from Dapto to Eden converged on the Batemans Bay Swimming Pool on Saturday for the annual Development Carnival.

Swimmers from U6s to Opens took part in the event, which included a contingent of 20 from the host club.
Batemans Bay Swimming Club president Jeni McCarthy said the carnival was a fitting start to the Summer at the pool.
“We are only a young club, so to get a turnout like this is fantastic,” she said.
“The number and depth of competitors was great to see.
“Children competing for the first time to those heading to the State Championships in Sydney this coming weekend.”
Among the standout performers on the day were Bay teenager Lachlan Knight, who was representing Ulladulla Swim Club.
He said the Development Carnival was a good way to sharpen his skills.
“I’ve competed in the 200m freestyle and the 50m butterfly, which are events I need to improve in, and a development carnival is a good place to do that,” he said.
The number and depth of competitors was great to see.
