Southern Eurobodalla group officer Mick Anderson said the two burns had been “highly successful”.
The Narooma, Tilba and Bingie RFS brigades undertook an 8-hectare hazard reduction burn at Ringlands Estate, south Narooma starting on Friday.
The burn on private property bounded by Ringlands Road worked well to reduce fuel loads, Mr Anderson said.
The other hazard reduction burn undertaken on the weekend saw Dalmeny, Bodalla and Potato Point RFS brigades complete a 4-hectare asset-protection burn in the bushland behind Goolara Avenue, Dalmeny.
“We achieved the outcomes we wanted and we’ve still got a few burns left in the area to make up for the poor weather last year but we’ve been lucky with conditions this year,” Mr Anderson said.
RFS brigades were planning a hazard reduction burn at the Bodalla Estate this Sunday, while in a few week’s time a larger burn was planned at Gannons Point on the eastern side of Bodalla.
Residents in the Narooma area would have also seen smoke from much larger hazard reduction burns being undertaken around C-Ridge Road north of Dalmeny by Forestry Corporation that aimed to cover 1480 hectares.
National Parks meanwhile was also undertaking a 600-hectare hazard reduction burn on the slopes of Mumbulla Mountain in the Murrah Flora Reserve.
Details of planned burns can be found on the NSW Rural Fire Service website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au and can also be tracked on the Fire Near Me app.
The RFS encourages members of the community to be aware of burns initiated around or near them.
