Another tragedy with many innocent lives lost.
Incidents such as this horrific attack on the people of Manchester live long in our memory.
For those of us who have lived long enough, we never forget where we were when we hear about tragedies such as this.
We all remember where we were the day we heard about the slaughter at Port Arthur.
Sometimes we watch on in horror as these world-changing events unfold as we did on that day September 11, 2001.
These events become vivid memories and the impact is felt far and wide.
As we watched the tragedy develop on Tuesday afternoon our time, England was waking up to fully come to terms with what the morning news had in store for them.
None of it good.
At the time of writing the alleged terror attack at Manchester Arena had reportedly killed 19 people and injured at least another 59.
It happened as people, many of them children, were leaving a concert by pop star Ariana Grande.
Eyewitnesses reported the horror that confronted them.
Images and video emerged of the mayhem which followed the blast.
People inside the Manchester Arena captured the enormous sound of the blast outside and people can be heard exclaiming “Oh, my God, in response”.
The US singing star sent out a tweet in the hours following the attack _
broken.
from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don’t have the words.
Indeed, few people had the words.
Attacks such as these on innocent people leave us all feeling hollow and empty.
Everyone feels in a state of shock. Regular, everyday frustrations seem to pale into nothingness.
Yet at these times, often caused by the worst of humanity, we often see the best of humanity in response.
As police shut down rail networks and access to areas of the city, people began offering shelter to people displaced by the tragedy.
People responded on social media and looked for ways to see how they could help those affected.
Alas, all we can hope for in this world is that the good outweighs the evil.
