Narooma lions hosted Pambula in all grades on Saturday, June 24.
In a major clash of first vs second in the South Coast AFL competition, the Narooma Lions had a fantastic dominant early term against the Panthers, which paved the way for a successful victory in a hard fought tight affair.
Billed as the match of the day, the seniors won the in the end by five goals against top side Pambula.
The big crowd were very vocal in their support of the lions and enjoyed a great game of footy.
In the end Narooma were too good and now go one game clear on top of the ladder.
Best players were A. Campbell. R. Hawkey. K. Mikolic. L. Talty. S. Mackie. B. Haliman. "Butters" #11 Simon Mackie also kicked his 50th goal for the season being the leading goal kicker.
Next week, the Narooma AFL Lions can all take a well earned rest as we have the bye. Their next game is against Merimbula at Bermagui in the mega round. Go Lions!
In the early game our Under 11s had a great win to start the day with every player doing as the coach asked. These young players keep getting better each week.
The Under 13s also had a great win in a very exciting close game. Pambula were coming home strong but the lions held strong to seal the match with a late goal. Best were M. Parker. A. Patmore. T. Carlson. J. Mikolic.
The Narooma Under 16s tried hard against a solid Pambula team to no avail. With a young side they will learn from this a gain some valuable experience for the years to come.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for the reserves. They still don’t realise that you actually have to train at some point if you want to win a game of footy. Hopefully they get the idea soon.
Our women's team were gallant in defeat against the best team in the comp. The scoreboard did not look too good but everyone tried their best, fighting the game out to the end.
A few weeks rest will give them time to rest up and get over a few injuries to take on Tathra. Rachel, Zallie, Sophie and Micheal were best on ground.
