In a show of solidarity for the mid-week frolic of the Hobart Winter Solstice swimmers, the Bermagui Blue Balls and Blue Pointers winter swimmers threw caution, bikinis and budgies to the wind for a nude swim in Horseshoe Bay on Sunday.
An air temperature of 7C and water nudging 16C were vigorously embraced as winter had finally arrived.
Thankfully the correct number of towels were supplied for the post-swim photo.
Winter ocean swimming makes gender differentiation problematic. Many of the hordes lining the foreshore hoping to play “spotto” apparently went home disappointed.
For the past five winters the Blue Balls, Blue Pointers and Blue Bottles have swum at numerous beaches and bays around Bermagui.
Always on the lookout for whatever surprises the ocean might contain, our resulting creature tally to date is large, leading to some of the swimmers wondering if we might find Harold Holt.
Oliver Curtis was recently in the area on Government business and it was hoped he might join us for a swim before he returned to Sydney.
Allegedly he has also been in China on business and we were intrigued as to whether he'd seen Harold Holt there.
The mystery continues. So if you're up for a clad or unclad swim bring your togs, sense of humour and investigative powers to Blue Pool at 9am on Sundays.
