The Bermagui Seaside Fair committee was very pleased to distribute $9,200 in donations to local youth, sporting and community organisations as a result of the success of this year’s event.
Supporting junior sporting clubs, the major recipients were Bermagui Breakers Australian Rules Football Club who received $2,500 and Bermagui & District Netball Association who received $1,800.
Other donations were given to Bermagui State Emergency Service, Bermagui Rural Fire Service, Marine Rescue Bermagui, Little Yuin Aboriginal Preschool, Bermagui Pre School, Bermagui Public School, Bermagui Cricket Club, Bermagui Surf Lifesaving Club, Bermagui Historical Society, Shop7 Artspace and 1st Cobargo Scout Group.
In its 20-year history, the Seaside Fair has now donated over $80,000 to 32 local youth, sporting and community groups – a wonderful achievement which the committee is extremely proud of.
“One of the really great things about the fair is giving back to the community,” chairperson Christine Bimson, said. “It’s incredibly personally rewarding and makes all the work involved in staging the fair worthwhile.”
Future of the Fair?
At a meeting held after the 2017 Bermagui Seaside Fair, four of the six fair committee members advised they would be stepping down at the AGM later this year.
Each of these people has committed many years to the planning and running of what has been a very successful event and it is an amazing milestone to reach 20 years.
To determine the future of the Bermagui Seaside Fair a public meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 19 at 6pm in the auditorium at the Bermagui Country Club.
For the fair to continue, at least six people are required to re-establish the organising committee. Direction and advice from outgoing members would be available.
Alternatively, if a Bermagui Seaside Fair organising committee cannot be re-established and the fair cannot proceed in the future, the opportunity exists with equipment, resources and funds available for a different new or existing event that follows the charter of the fair’s organising body, Bermagui Seasiders.
This could be an event held in Bermagui in the off-peak tourism season that raises funds for local youth and community projects. An established and reputable organising committee and a detailed event business plan would be requirements, Ms Bimson said.
