Bermagui Karate Club hosted their high-tea fundraiser last Sunday afternoon to help support 12 year-old Jack McCaughtrie get to Ireland in August to compete in the Karate World Championships.
It was a fantastic afternoon at Narooma Surf Life Saving Club, where 63 guests enjoyed copious amounts of delicious homemade food, champagne and sparkling fruit punch, all in aid of raising money for Bermagui Karate Club, a small non-profit organisation.
There were fundraising games going on throughout the afternoon with plenty of laughs and loads of locally donated prizes up for grabs.
The dart throwing game was very popular, but proved to be not as easy as it first appeared! Lucky door prizes were give away via a couple of rounds of Heads and Tails and three lucky guests took home bottles of Alcohol from the popular coin slide games. The Silent Auction also saw 10 happy people go home with some great prizes.
“Special thanks goes out to all the local businesses from Narooma, Bermagui and Tilba who generously donated prizes for us to give away on the day, event organiser and Jack’s mum Leichelle said.
“We really appreciate your support in helping our club to be able to help Jack.
“Our goal was to raise enough money to cover Jacks travel and competition costs in Ireland, and we did that. So thank you.”
She still has raffle tickets available for the chance to win a Weekend at Murramarang Beachfront Resort, A Whale Watch Adventure for two with Lighthouse Charters and a new surfboard made and donated by Arthur from 1080 Surfboards Designs.
Phone her on 0429 926 030 for tickets and the raffle will will be drawn at 7pm Thursday, August 3 at Bermagui Leisure Centre.
“We'd also like to thank the many businesses who donated food and champagne for this event, as well as the guests who made something yummy to bring along,” Mrs McCaughtrie said.
“We have been completely overwhelmed by how generous and supportive our community has been towards our fundraising efforts, and it just goes to show how lucky we are to live in, and raise our kids, in a fantastic community such as this.”
