There are 25 positions on offer and the council’s senior human resources officer Jenny Nardusso said the council was looking for enthusiastic and reliable people to fill the roles.
“We typically have more than 30 trainees, apprentices and cadets employed with council,” she said.
“This is a particularly large recruitment because several of our current cohort will complete their training at the end of this year and many of our other trainees and apprentices have won permanent jobs.”
Ms Nardusso said skill shortages exist in some of the specific skillsets that the council’s workforce needed.
“For example, in the fields of engineering and civil construction it is often difficult to recruit suitable applicants,” she said.
“Investing in trainees, cadets and apprentices to develop people into those skills through a combination of on and off the job training has proven a successful strategy for the council for more than a decade now.”
Positions available for the February 2018 intake include business administration youth trainees, water operations trainees, ranger trainee, civil construction trainees and apprentices, electrical apprentice, trainee water and sewer technical officer and engineering cadet.
Ms Nardusso said applications were welcome from people of all ages and experiences, except the youth trainees, which are for those aged under 21 and currently residing in the Eurobodalla shire.
“We recognise the difficulties local young people can face if they want to remain in the area and start a career. The youth trainee program is our way of providing opportunities that build valuable job knowledge,” she said.
“Armed with a qualification and experience, graduates are well equipped for their next steps in a competitive job market.”
The 25 roles on offer are for the term of the training and the training terms vary. Applications close Friday, October 13 – visit www.esc.nsw.gov.au for details.
