Dalmeny Men’s bowls
Flying around as a Goose must do to report on bowlers’ activities resulted in your scribe relying on the “Results” book. It said 34 bowlers turned out on Monday in fine and somewhat windy conditions.
The lowest winning margin decided the winners in some familiar faces - Snoopy Leigh, Par Wain and Ashley Boot-Print from the runners-up in a new pair of Kadams and Glavis. No resting toucher nor was the $343 jackpot won. Wrong bias sinners got off scot free and the raffle prizes kept their winnings to themselves.
As usual it only looked like rain for 37 bowlers on Thursday. Secret ends decided the winners on 2 in a visiting pair of Diggers Sims, Nancy Shield and Golden Arches Alan from the Goose’s usual bowling mates of Cobber Dudley and Loquacious Lloyd with my stand-in Account Gourley (must be worth at least a drink, Bill) as he also took out the resting toucher. Once again the raffle wines kept things to themselves.
Friday Twilight bowls began with a full green of 28 players which was great to see and we certainly hope it will continue. The winners in the Pink-meat father/son team of Brett and Neil from the runners-up in Steal Grove and Bruce A1-kith. The first resting toucher went to gospeller Prus and our returning sponsors, The Hippy Sticks’ prize went to Par Budin and a stirring Wacka.
Names in by 4.45pm Friday please, to help organiser Dipper Ron organise the cards. Don’t forget to get your names in for the “100-up” competition as the 1st round is October 22.
Dalmeny Women
It was a busy green as members played in a variety of games in perfect conditions. The first round of the Drawn Fours was played alongside some fun social bowls. Winners on the day were lead Olwyn Mayer, second Jan Jones, third Enid Brooker and skip Lyn Dunbar with Glen Pisanos, Lois McGregor, Barbara Wort and Kathy Ryan as runners-up. Lyn Dunbar was closest to the spider. Congratulations to all bowlers.
Congratulations also to Jan and Bernie Jones who were the Mixed Pairs Champions for 2017 – quite a feat to win with your spouse! Well done.
Glen Pisanos and Eileen Lavis were the lucky raffle winners.
There is plenty happening for the diaries in the next month or so, and then we will be approaching the festive season! T
he Consistency Event begins on Saturday October 21st, the Quarterly Meeting occurs on Wednesday October 25th at 10.00am, the Minor Singles begins on Saturday November 4th and the Past Presidents are celebrated on their day on Tuesday November 14th.

Social Bowls Winners’ Circle
There was a good turnout on Wednesday with 46 bowlers making up seven rinks of triples and one rink of pairs. The Maggsy Draw was lowest winning margin and this week the winners were Rod Holman and John Voytas (skip) who led 14 to six after 13 ends and then held off their opponents comeback to take their match 18 to 16 against John McNamara and Jeff Iles (skip).
Second place went to Leigh Falkiner, Wazza George and Tony Palmer (skip) who started well to lead 13 to two after 10 ends and then got stuck on 13 for eight ends before they got a couple of lucky shots in to win their match against Wazza Bender, John Downie and David Hosken (skip) 18 to 16. David Hosken confirmed his accuracy by having the first resting toucher, well done David.
On Saturday there was one rink of triples and three rinks of pairs. The winners, determined by the lowest winning margin, were David Hosken, Mo Hinds and Col Murdoch (skip) who led 12 to eight after 11 ends and kept a narrow lead to the end to win their match 20 to 16 over Warwick George, Carl Lee and Brian Luck (skip). Second place went to Peter Dillon and Ray Gale (skip) who started smartly to lead 14 to five after 12 ends and they squared the remaining ends to run out 23 to 14 winners over Garry Evans and Dennis Maggs (skip). The Jackpot was not won and is up for grabs again next Saturday so get your team in now.
On Sunday we had two games of triples and two games of pairs enjoying a friendly game in perfect spring conditions. What a great afternoon we had with the lucky winners this week being visitor Rhonda O’Toole, Mavis Hardy and Barry Lymbery (skip) who started strongly and continued to play top bowls throughout to take their match 26 to eight against Betty Blakeley/Warren Bender, Pat Wood and Shirley Pilgrim (skip).
Consistency: We are getting to the pointy end of this enthralling competition with the following matches played over the last week. Gerry Harvey defeated Warren Bender 100 to 100 by getting to that score first on the last end.
Gerry then played Rod Holman and in another close match he came out the victor with an 100 to 94 win. Brian Seaman finished strongly to win his match against John Breust 101 to 89.
For Your Diary: The President Pairs entry sheet is on the board so please get your name down quickly. It is open to all bowlers. Please make sure you play your Consistency game on or before the due date.
Narooma Women
Another lovely day for bowls last Tuesday, although it did turn cool and cloudy for a while. Eight ladies on the green played pairs while two triples matches were contested by the remaining dozen. Gail Palmer teamed up with Kerry Ferguson for a good game against Denise Holman and Gail Riley. The first half of the 18 ends was a close affair, four all on six then five all after eight. Then Denise and Gail had a good run to hold a ten-eight advantage on the fourteenth, before continuing on to take the match. The lucky rink prize win ensured that Denise and Gail finished on a high note. Merrie Downie won the meat tray raffle, thanks to Rapley’s Meats.
Past Presidents Fours - ladies please check the notice board. Entries are now open for the last competition for this year commencing Thursday 2 November. No bowls on November 7 – it’s Melbourne Cup Day.
