And since the kitchen and dining area opened its doors at the Uniting Church, there have been just over 20,000 meals served.
On Wednesday, chef Gerd Tiedt was serving up a choice of roast beef with gravy and vegetables or his own home-smoked glazed ham on red cabbage. For dessert, there was apple crumble or pavlova with ice cream and mulberries from a volunteers garden.
Providing the entertainment was the trio of Denise Peru, David Oliphant and Michael Wheatley.
Monty’s Place operates every Wednesday from 12noon to 1.30pm at the Uniting Church Hall, Narooma. In addition to the lunches, there are often representatives present from legal aid, Anglicare and even a men’s advocate.
Monty's Place committee chairman Barry Flanagan said Monty's Place has gone from strength to strength.
“We regularly have more than 70 guests, who enjoy good food and companionship and the service of our wonderful volunteers,” Mr Flanagan said. “We also have regular visits from Legal Aid, Homelessness NSW and the men's advocate from South East Women and Children, who provide support to our guests.”
Monty's Place is going so well that they need more volunteers. So if you want to contribute to your community and support people in need, the Monty's Place team would love to hear from you.
“You will be joining a fabulous, fun group of volunteers who are giving back to their community."
