Jim Bright of Narooma wins medals at Masters Games

An incredible effort by Jim Bright of Narooma at the recent 16th Australian Masters Games held in North West Tasmania from October 21-28. He won medals in both table tennis and athletics events.

Incredible, as Jim was only a late entry due to a hamstring injury that prevented him from training for virtually all this year.

Jim had a fantastic games in that he was the gold medal winner in the singles and doubles, with Christopher Nevell, table tennis Division 2 for 65 to 74 year olds, and a silver in the team event.

The team event was so closely fought that it was decided  on a countback to another team, as both Gold and Silver were undefeated.

To top it all off, Jim came away with a bronze in the premier athletic event of the 1500metres at the Masters. Jim had only about four weeks training before the race due to his hamstring injury, which made this achievement even more remarkable.

It is no mean feat to race when prevented from training for a long period.

Jim’s effort will hopefully inspire other Sexagenarians and Septuagenarians to get out there and be active.

Narooma is a great place to live according to Jim. It is such a beautiful environment there is no excuse not to be active according to Jim.
