A very big thank you must go to Graham Cummins for his organising of the Charity Bowls State of Origin Matches (2 games of 16 ends).
The bowls was a Challenge day between the mighty New South Wales group vs The Barbarians (bowlers from all over the rest of Australia and the World).
By the way The Barbarians won the day by 9 matches to 7.
Graham thanked the 61 bowlers who participated in the matches on the day and helped make the day a success.
Also, a much appreciated thank you must go to the N.S.S.C. and Narooma Men’s Bowls.
Also the IMB Bank for their sponsorship.
During the day, along with donations and takings from raffles etc. over $1000 was raised in support of the Drop In Centre, a wonderful charity run by Nancy Curry and her volunteers.
This is a completely not-for-profit organisation which donates to many community organisations throughout Narooma and surrounding areas.
Once again a very big thank you goes to all who participated, but most importantly to Graham Cummins, for the amount of work he put in to ensure a very successful day and only a small amount of rain to be had on the day.
On You Graham, you are a bonza bloke.
Saturday. 09-12- 2017.
We had 22 (4 rinks pairs and 1 triples) nominate for the afternoon Jack-Pot Joker Bowls.
It was a really pleasant afternoon for bowls, but maybe not for the side who brought the winners in.
The winners on the day were decided by the team with the highest winning score.
That team consisted of Kevin Cullen and Dennis Maggs with a shot total of a bloody lot.
They defeated Tony Fryer and Jon Voytas with not enough shots.
Runners-up were Darryl Goodridge, Wayne Harman and Mario Marsh with 24 shots over Bruce Rapkins, Rob Coulson and Brett Graham 13 shots.
A lucky rink draw was then carried out to determine who the skip on that rink would be to attempt to cut the depleted deck of cards to claim the $440 by turning up the Joker.
However, he were only able to come up with the 8 of hearts (probably should have worn his Barbarian hat).
So next time the Jack-Pot is worth $480 and the deck of cards is more depleted.
Sunday. 10-12- 2017.
The afternoon Joe’s special mixed bowls had a fantastic roll-up of 26 bowlers and it was a fantastic day as well.
The winners of the afternoon were decided by the highest winning margin.
Those winners were Isabell Halsey, Joe Halsey and Bruce Rapkins, with 30 shots, a shot margin of 23, over Betty Blakley and Warren Bender (shared a game) Sue Wales and Tony Gors 7 shots.
Runners-up were Pam Grant and Jean Vos, 30 shots, a shot margin of 15 over Clare Cork and Mavis Hardy 15 shots.
Don’t forget your names for next Sunday in an attempt to outnumber this week’s 26 bowlers.
