The Mystery Bay campground has for the past two years had strict controls as to how many people can stay and once that limit is reached, campers are turned away.
But local landowner Col Eddie has decided to open one of his paddocks off nearby Sunnyside Road to self-contained mobile homes and caravans to take the over flow. He said he wanted to help out the community and Narooma-area businesses would benefit from the opening his land and retention of more campers.
Santa Trevor Bennett is taking a year off from his Christmas lights, but a lights display and Santa are just across the road at 53 Warbler Crescent, North Narooma thanks to neighbour John White.
There will be live music on Christmas Eve and a collection for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The Narooma Surf Life Saving Club started its eight-hour patrols on the weekend, while the professional lifeguards from Lifeguarding Services Australia also started their holiday patrols at Dalmeny Beach and Camel Rock. Both services are vital considering the number of drownings across NSW already this summer.
Also at Dalmeny beach, there has been a new boardwalk to the beach constructed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Speaking of safety messages, the Narooma police have issued their usual holiday warning to keep valuables out of sight and secure, particularly in campgrounds and car parks. There were a number of instances of theft at the Dalmeny campground over the weekend with items stolen including fishing rods.
But this message applies to the rest of us locals too. The spate of break-ins in recent weeks continued with an apartment on the Narooma Flat targeted by thieves who ripped a safe out of the wall overnight on Friday, December 15, and also attempting to steal a car downstairs.
This week saw the final print edition of the Narooma News for 2017 and your local paper will be back on January 10. In the meantime, you can always post on the Narooma News Facebook page or contact the editor at kerrie.oconnor@fairfaxmedia.com.au
Have a safe and prosperous holiday time, be patient with the holiday crowds as they keep the town’s economy ticking and catch you in the New Year!
