Angler Max Castle said signs were going up at boat ramps and caravan parks to advise of the establishment of the trial Tuross Head Recreational Fishing Haven.
Under the program, anglers are encouraged to release all flathead of more than 70cm long to boost breeding – and ensure a resource for future fishing trips.
Anglers and their families can also scan a bar code on the signs to learn more about the benefits of releasing the big ones.
The one that got away will be back with family tomorrow.
