
The Far South Coast highway patrol has had a busy start to the holiday season – and is pleading for motorists to take care.
At 12.45am on December 27, a 24-year-old man, on his P2 licence, was taken to Moruya hospital after a single vehicle accident on Dwyers Creek Road, Moruya.
Police said witnesses reported the man left a party travelling at excessive speed without wearing a seat belt. Police said he lost control of his ute and it collided heavily with an embankment before rolling.
The driver was thrown, and scraped his head and torso along the bitumen.
Police and ambulance attended.
On Saturday, December 23, three men were arrested for drink-driving.
A 20-year-old Tuross Head man on his P2 licence returned a mid-range reading after a random breath test on Queen Street, Moruya.
A 37-year-old Batemans Bay man, on his P1 licence, was breath tested after complaints about his driving on the Princes Highway, south of Moruya.
He returned a positive reading and was charged with mid-range drink driving.
A 53-year-old man returned a high-range reading after being stopped on George Bass Drive, Malua Bay.
On Sunday, December 24, a 60-year-old man was charged with low-range drink driving in Moruya.
At 10.20pm on Christmas Day, Eden police received complaints about a light pantec truck being driven erratically north of Eden.
The truck was found, and the driver, a 51-year-old man of no fixed address, returned a high range alcohol reading.
On December 26, a vehicle driven by a 42-year-old Mogo man on the Princes Highway was identified as unregistered.
Police stopped the vehicle, and found the driver had never been licensed.
He was charged with driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle, and driving without ever having held a licence.
At 10.30am, a blue Audi sedan was reported to be overtaking dangerously in the Narooma area. The car was stopped for a breath test.
The 29-year-old male Sydney driver did not test positive for alcohol, however, he was charged with driving in a manner dangerous to the public, after police viewed dashcam footage of him overtaking on a blind corner.
A 29-year-old Barraba man was stopped on Dwyers Creek Road, Moruya, and returned a low range blood alcohol reading.
