Mackie, 54, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Marnie-Lee Cave, 26, who died from strangulation, before her body was thrown off Handcocks Bridge at Mogareeka in October, 2015.
On Friday, after a day and a half of deliberation, the jury told the court they may be unable to reach a majority verdict.
After three weeks of evidence and a day and a half of deliberation, NSW Supreme Court Judge Megan Latham, who is presiding over the case, told the jury of four women and eight men “more time and consideration” may help them towards a unanimous verdict.
She told the jury “two days away from the concentrated attention” they have given the evidence in the trial would benefit them, before adjourning proceedings.
The members of the jury returned on Monday, asking for clarification on several aspects of the case, but have yet to reach a consensus.
Eleven jurors must agree in order for a majority verdict, and if jurors cannot reach a majority decision the matter can be referred for another trial by a different jury.
