Crystal clear water and a perfectly cloudless sky was beckoning, but all the talk seemed to be about the previous evening’s nuptials for the three Blue Pointers, one Blue Bottle, and five Blue Balls.
However just one of the attendees had actually viewed the proceedings as others had been busy either sharpening the mower blades up in the shed or ironing their budgie smugglers in preparation for the next day’s swim.
The question was put, “What did the Queen whisper to Prince Phillip during the service”?
All manner of suggestions were offered, but the favourite seemed to be: “I didn’t realise Flip Wilson had given up performing comedy routines and switched to delivering sermons”.
And so with one of the great mysteries of 2018 now solved, it was time to plunge into the 17°C water for a couple of laps of Horseshoe Bay.
The group paid tribute to English cuisine with their after-swim snacks, including cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, scotch eggs, tea, coffee, and Baker & Williams Butterscotch Schnapps.
If you're interested in having some fun and a swim, bring your cossies, smile, and sense of the absurd to Horseshoe Bay at 9am on Sunday mornings.
