Name and breed:
Dino the Dingo lives with Rhona and her two other rescue dogs in the Eurobodalla Shire. At six weeks’ old, Dino was rescued from a remote community, 300km from Alice Springs.
What attracted you to this pet?
As a camp dog he was unlikely to enjoy the health benefits of vaccination, worming, quality food and desexing.
What is the best thing about your new friend?
He may have a little dingo in him and his survival behaviours suggest he's not far removed from a primitive hunting dog. Anything is edible including (dead) puffer fish!
However his early experiences of freedom and socialisation make him a highly social boy with people and dogs. With siblings he was transported to Alice Springs, then flown to a foster carer in Sydney, then REX to Moruya, howling loudly all the way.
The vet who originally checked him suggested he would be a small dog; oh well even vets make errors! Dino was featured on the PetRescue Camp Dogs website where he had his own blog.
How did you make the decision to adopt a rescue?
I shudder at the cruel image of puppy factories and designer dogs. Hopefully they will be out of business if we all adopt instead.
Why would you encourage others to consider a rescue pet?
I'm passionate about adopting rescue pups which have always turned out to be affectionate, healthy and happy family members. We make so many new friends on our beach walkies, which have the added benefit of keeping arthritis at bay.
Have you welcomed a rescue pet into your home? We’d love to hear from you! Please submit responses to the profile questions above, and a picture of you with your adopted family member to community.eurobodalla@fairfaxmedia.com.au.
