16.14PM: Marine Rescue Batemans Bay has sent a crew to the aid of two people on a drifting boat off Congo.
A spokesman said the service received a call at about 2.20pm on Friday, June 22, from the vessel, after its engine failed.
The six-metre runabout was 18 nautical miles east of Congo when the call was made. It was too far out to anchor however, and has been drifting since.
The spokesperson said it was estimated the Batemans 30 crew would reach the vessel at about 5.30pm.
“Conditions are good, there are fair seas and light winds,” the spokesperson said.
“The crew (of the drifting vessel) have taken all safety precautions.”
Michael Kelly is vessel master of Batemans 30, with leading crew David Murn and Warren Lewis.
Westpac Helicopter is using the incident as a night training exercise. Both services are working together. More details as they come to hand.
