The four million litre concrete reservoir will service the Bermagui township and represents a 60 per cent increase in storage capacity, thus ensuring the supply for current and future residents of the town is secure.
This reservoir is a key component of council’s long term water supply strategy for Bermagui and has been constructed on council owned land, which was acquired for this purpose more than a decade ago.
The elevation of this particular site was chosen to enable a significant increase in water pressure to the higher areas of Bermagui.
The significant capacity increase of the reservoir will also enable the use of off-peak pumping to reduce ongoing operational costs.
Upgrade works to the water supply network are being completed simultaneously with the reservoir coming into service.
A rebuild of the access road, as well as bush revegetation and stabilisation on and around the reservoir site have been integral parts of the overall project.
The swap to the new reservoir may result in short interruptions to supply and may change how the water tastes for a few days; however it is entirely safe to drink.
