A driver has been critically injured after being hit by a kangaroo near Lithgow on Friday.

About 7.20pm, emergency services were called to Pipers Flat Road, Portland, about 25kms north west of Lithgow, after reports of a crash
Police have been told a Holden Commodore was travelling west when it hit a kangaroo, launching it into the windscreen of a Ford Falcon utility travelling east. The driver lost control, hitting the guard rails.
The Ford driver, a 32-year-old man suffered serious head and facial injuries. He was treated by paramedics and airlifted to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
The Holden driver, a 19-year-old man, and two female passengers were uninjured.
Officers from Chifley Police District are continuing to investigate the incident.
