Mrs Dellamarta has been an active member of the Narooma CWA, holding many positions in the branch over the years including president.
On St. Patrick’s Day last year, Shirley had a malignant melanoma removed from the side of her face and not long after she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma.
“My whole body was full of them and I had been going around telling everybody I was cured, but I wasn’t cured of those damned lymphoma’s
“It’s an insidious disease because you don’t suffer any pain from it,” she said.
Eighteen treatments and three ‘chemo’s’ later, Mrs Dellamarta is celebrating her 86th birthday enjoying a luncheon with friends at Narooma Golf Club on September 12.
“I want my birthday to be a memorial to life,” she said.
