Airidas Untilis, the new coach, was appointed around the time Eurobodalla Community Aquatics took over the management of Narooma, Moruya, and Batemans Bay aquatic centres.
Untilis has been working closely with the swimmers in his squad, and has seen a strong growth in numbers since he took the job.
Thanks to the commitment from Untilis and the squad, Narooma has seen some fantastic results with a number of swimmers heading to Sydney Olympic Park to swim at a representative level.
Narooma had seven swimmers who qualified for the NSW Country Championships in July of this year.
Aiden Miles qualified for eight individual events, and went on to achieve one second place (50-metre freestyle) and four personal-best times at the meet.
Kaleb Miles qualified for one event, and recorded a personal-best time in the 50-metre freestyle in his first representative meet.
Bray Constable qualified for five event, and finished in the top 10 in two of those. He also swam a total of four personal-best times.
Joel Constable qualified for the 50-metre freestyle, and swam a personal best in his first representative carnival.
Lillyan Potts qualified for three events, and swam personal bests in the 100-metre backstroke and 50-metre freestyle.
Milaina Cafe qualified for four events and swam three personal-best times. Giaan Cafe qualified for two events at her first representative meet.
Aiden Miles, Milaina Cafe, and Bray Constable all qualified for the NSW State Championships held in August and September at Sydney Olympic Park.
Untilis is currently in full swing with training the swimmers, and introducing new training techniques, including the additional dry-land training session offered to older squad swimmers. The swimmers are focusing on achieving further country, state, and national swimming times
The Narooma Amateur Swimming Club will kick off its summer season with three free come-and-try nights, with the first on Thursday, September 27 at 6pm. The season officially begins on Thursday, October 18.
The club wants to encourage all members of the community to come along and join in on a fun weekly activity. More serious swimmers also have the opportunity to improve their performances under the watchful eye of Airidas Untilis.
There will also be a focus this season on encouraging more young swimmers to attend meets along the South Coast, with an aim of improving their results and achievements.
The club are therefore on the lookout for any assistance with transportation. If you can help, contact can be made by sending an email to naroomaasc@gmail.com.
The current squad timetable can be found at the Narooma Aquatic Centre. For further information, visit the club’s Facebook page.
