The group is inviting everyone to go on a sea-slug search to help them build the best list of these amazing creatures that live along our coast.
Whether you are divers, snorkelers or like hunting in rock pools, join the census - have a walk or get underwater on the dates above and send them all the images you can of what you find.
If you’re not sure what a sea slug is, or what to look for, Matt Nimbs will be with here this year to describe them and his work.
Matt is the scientist who collects all the records from the Sea Slug Censuses around our coasts (from Queensland to Southern Victoria) and studies what and where we find the creatures.
This year he will be presenting and sharing some of his great knowledge with us.
Sea slugs are changing where they live because of warming sea temperatures, so Matt wants to record as many as he can from year to year.
As well as Matt’s presentations, the Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre is leading rocky shore rambles, and the Atlas of Life is searching at Lennards Island and taking a group for a night-time snorkel in the Blue Pool.
The Nature Coast Marine Group will dive and snorkel around Narooma, and Alan Scrymgeour is leading a walk to hunt for rose-petalled bubble shells from Spencer Park in Merimbula.
Please remember that some sea slugs can be poisonous, and care should be taken when trying to find them.
