Participants in the Quota Student of the year final held in Narooma: Sweta Narayan (Ingleburn), Selena Wong (Liverpool), Peter Gleeson (MacArthur), Geena Thomas (Narooma) and Niamh Christopher (Wollongong).

The winner was Niamh Christopher of Wollongong receiving a trophy and $300 prize from Quota Region 14 director Rosemary Stewart.

Niamh congratulated her fellow contestants and said she was overwhelmed by the calibre of the speeches she heard that day.

Members of the Narooma Quota Club were represented by Narooma High School student Geena Thomas who gave an excellent speech about leadership.

Other participants included Peter Gleeson from Macarthur, Sweta Narayan from Ingleburn, and Selena Wong from Liverpool.

The Quest allows the students to practice their public-speaking and interpersonal skills.

After being interviewed by the judges - who scored the students on their general knowledge, citizenship contributions and leadership potential - the students spoke on a prepared topic for four minutes, followed by a one-minute ad lib speech.

Stephanie Lunn, last year's winner from Moruya High School, told the audience how the experience had changed her life and helped her feel at ease speaking publicly or in interview situations.

She presented Niamh with the perpetual shield, which will be displayed at Niamh's high school this coming year.

The difficult task of judging the contest was expertly handled by Lynda Ord, Bob Aston and Peter McCabe.

Lynda Ord said she wished the parents could be in the interview room to see how amazing their children were, and how well they expressed themselves on a wide range of topics.

Quota International of Narooma thanks their major sponsors.
