The weapon of choice in this war on wildlife is 1080 poison, a controversial poison that endangers the birds which may feed on poisoned carrion, as well taking the lives of species such as the spotted quoll, lizards,and dingos, and contaminating the soil and drinking water.

This 1080 poison is so dangerous it has been banned in most developed countries. Not even introduced animals branded as "feral" deserve to be killed in such a cruel and barbaric way.

The unpublicised, undemocratic and falsely named "Recovery Plan" authorises ground-based shooting, trapping and baiting of feral animals (dogs, dingos, cats, foxes) and extensive aerial baiting in burnt areas, and in unburnt refuge areas.

Although entitled to protection as a native animal, the dingo has been removed from protection for the purpose of this plan and targeted for an ugly death as a wild dog, even though it is a different species from the dog, and has evolved in Australia over thousands of years with a vital role in the natural eco-system.

The present largely unpublicised plan ignores the considered opinion of 248 scientists and ecologists who wrote to the Prime Minister urging strong leadership to arrest the rapid decline in the number of native species and the break-down of the natural eco-system.

Save the dingo.

South Coast Community Kitchen has teamed up with Chicken On The Run, Narooma, to provide a "pay it forward" meal service to those in need on the South Coast. The service will cover from Batemans Bay to Narooma at this stage, and is aimed to be done every Friday.

It's obvious all our elected council representatives made substantial contributions to the preparation of the 2020-21 and beyond Draft Budget Management and Delivery Plans, endorsing exhibition for public comment.

Public comment on such matters in recent years seems to more about box ticking to satisfy consultation requirements of the state government. It seems public submissions have not influenced changes to any proposed budgets, management and delivery plans.

Worse, financial restraint doesn't seem to be a consideration whatsoever in the present economic climate. Why? It's pointless offering ideas and solutions to the way the council operates and is managed on behalf of it's owners: the residents, ratepayers and taxpayers.
