A 35-year-old Nowra man has been charged after he allegedly mounted the kerb while doing burnouts in a Batemans Bay residential area on a school day afternoon.

Officers received several calls from residents about 4.40pm on Tuesday, October 13, that a man was driving dangerously at High Street, a police spokesman said. The residents had particular concern for the safety of school children. Police attended the scene and allegedly saw burnout marks on the road and marks indicating the car mounted the kerb, the spokesman said.
Officers found the man with his ute, and arrested him after an alleged positive alcohol reading. Police charged the man with driving recklessly/furiously or in a dangerous manner/speed and prolonging/sustaining a loss of traction. The man was granted bail and is due to appear at Batemans Bay Court on October 26.
Car, for sale, damaged
In a separate incident, police have appealed to the public for information after parts of a Toyota Land Cruiser were stolen at a Moruya car yard on Sunday, October 11.
Police said the offender(s) damaged the car, which was for sale at the Vulcan Street site, by removing extendable mirrors worth $1000-$1500. Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Kayaker safe
Rescuers winched an ocean kayaker to safety after his vessel overturned and he swam to Grasshopper Island off Depot Beach on Saturday, October 10. Rescue helicopter Lifesaver 23, Batemans Bay Marine Rescue, Eden Water Police and NSW Maritime were called to the incident.
"The kayaker did the right thing and had a life jacket on and escaped with no significant injuries," the spokesperson said.
