A spokesperson from the AWL Narooma Dog Training Club said we are so lucky living in the Eurobodalla where council has designated several beaches as leash free for dogs.
"People and pooches can run, swim and play freely together all day on these beaches, but there are a few points of etiquette all dog owners should observe and at the top of the list is dog poo.
"Although there are signs asking owners to clean up after their dog and remove the poo to protect public health, some people choose to ignore the request.
"Dog poo buried in the sand is a distressing 'find' for a young child having fun making a sandcastle and it's really unpleasant for anyone who inadvertently steps into doggie doo as they enjoy a barefoot walk in the sand."
Another problem for all beach goers is an excited dog, free running.
"Even in leash free areas, your dog should still be under control as there is nothing worse than a dog running full pelt towards a person or pet, jumping up, lunging or even growling which can be very frightening," AWL spokesperson Carol Helmers said.
"Ideally, owners should leash their dog when people are approaching, and especially if they have a dog with them.
"Most dogs will cope quite well when they encounter new four legged friends - but this is not always the case and a cautious approach is recommended to avoid injury to your dog or yourself," she said.
Ms Helmers advises leashing your dog and introducing them in a controlled fashion. Be aware of the body language of both dogs and if the encounter becomes 'tricky', quickly move yourself and your dog to a safe distance before allowing your pet to run free again.
"Maintaining control of your dog and being aware of canine etiquette will enhance your enjoyment of a beach walk with your dog," she said.
