As Australian Community Media reported yesterday NSW's Mid-North and North Coast regions as well as areas across the Riverina and Murrumbidgee are likely to get the green light to reopen.
The ABC is now reporting those areas will be released from lockdown on Friday at midnight.
Regional travel is set to resume when the state has 70 per cent of its adult population fully vaccinated, the national broadcaster reported.
The Friday, September 10 exit was the date originally flagged however outbreaks across the state have meant a one-size-fits-all easing is unlikely.
Regional and rural NSW entered a lockdown with greater Sydney on August 13.
The rest of the roadmap for New South Wales coming out of lockdown will be revealed on Thursday by Premier Gladys Berejiklian. However, there are reports restrictions could ease as soon as October 18.
FROM TUESDAY:
NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro is pushing for large areas of regional NSW, which have had no cases during the recent Delta outbreak, to be released from lockdown this weekend.
He flagged an area of northern NSW - stretching from the northern rivers to Tamworth - and the Riverina region to the south-west as the most likely to be released from lockdown, if that approach is taken.
The regional NSW lockdown is slated to end on September 10, however it is expected a number of regions will have this extended.
"That's my hope, but I've got to get the support of Health to agree with that," he said.
He said if positive sewage tests could be traced to potential causes it would make it easier to put forward a case for those areas to come out of lockdown.
Criteria such as the number of active cases, how many were active in the community while infectious, and their proximity to other local government areas with high numbers, also will be considered.
A crisis meeting will make a decision on regional NSW lockdown on Wednesday afternoon, which will be announced on Thursday.
"I think we should give the regions the opportunity to come out at any time, especially those areas of low numbers...
"Dubbo's got no hope of coming out of lockdown. Has Bathurst and Orange got a chance? Very little, on the base numbers that are there today, by Wednesday, but possibly in the future, but we will measure all that on Wednesday."
The deputy premier added it is unlikely that regions lifted from lockdown would return to pre-lockdown conditions, with some restrictions still in place.
"There will still be some level of restrictions to make sure that we somehow balance the need to reopen and the balance of protecting people and regions," he said.
Mr Barilaro also said work is ongoing to include people's vaccination status on Service NSW when they sign-in to venues using a QR code.
A version has already been developed, but will need further work - particularly around the app having to access Medicare data.
Mr Barilaro said further categories would need to be developed to include those with medical exemptions and people under 16.
The goal is to trial the service in a few local government areas in the weeks leading up to the 70 per cent vaccination milestone.
