While most walking tracks in this area are unmarked, we've asked some of the shire's most experienced bushwalkers to give us the inside scoop on their favourite walks and how to get to them.
This week, Batemans Bay Bushwalking Club president Karen MacLatchy shares her recommendation for beginner walkers, or those new to the shire: the gorgeous vistas of Guerilla Bay.
When Karen MacLatchy, a keen bushwalker, moved to the Eurobodalla Shire 19 years ago, she was excited to discover the famous "nature coast".
She said while most trails in the shire were unmarked, the Guerilla Bay walk was a good one for beginners as it was "almost impossible to get lost on".
"It's a nice little walk that I like to show visitors to the area," she said.
"Even though it's almost an urban walk, you feel like you're miles away from anywhere. It's very scenic."
Guerilla Bay is a little village located in between Barlings Beach and Rosedale.
It's home to unusual rock formations dating back some 510 million years.
Ms MacLatchy said the walk showcased the beautiful vistas and vegetation of the South Coast, while also capturing some of the shire's history.
"It's got some of the best views in the shire, where you can see all the way to Pigeon House Mountain in the north, and when you get on the south side of the point you can see all the way to Gulaga," she said.
"There are little coves that aren't accessible by vehicles and a couple of gorgeous little beaches that very rarely have people on them.
"It's also got the concrete bunker, which is a reminder of World War II in this area."
Let your curiosity run wild
Ms MacLatchy said this was a great walk to explore because even though the trail was unmarked, there were defined paths to look out for and follow.
"Sometimes you might go down a track, and it's a dead end, and you just have to come back. That's no drama," she said.
"With this particular walk, just explore and if you go wrong, retrace your steps, get back on the track and keep going.
"Keep an open mind and be curious."
Karen's guide to Burrewarra Point and Guerilla Bay
8km, easy
Start at the carpark at the end of Burri Point Road in Guerilla Bay where there's a sign advertising the Banksia Walk. This is a 750m flat walk to the Lighthouse on Burrewarra Point. It passes a concrete bunker and a viewing platform, both signposted.
At the lighthouse the track continues south along the cliffs all the way to a sandy cove (locally known as Franks Beach). Retrace your steps, keeping closer to the back boundaries of the houses on the way back. Turn left at Sandy Place and left at Burri Point Road. Then right at Guerilla Bay Road to the beach.
Follow the beach north to the big rock and picnic tables. You can walk across and explore the big rock at low tide. There is a track at the back of the northern end of the sand which goes over the headland to the north and down to another sandy cove.
Retrace your steps back to carpark.
The Batemans Bay Bushwalkers club is set to resume its walk schedule with groups of up to 20 people from October 14.
